This is the first page to outline the work of Lucas Projects.

Decomissioning Disposal Repair Reinstate

    • Decommissioning and Disposal

As it is quite normal for systems to have a life cycle we also consider the 'end of life' situation. We can offer decommissioning and disposal of ‘end of life’ systems and antennae etc. Wherever possible, Lucas Projects will seek to re-use and recycle. This can be from a single piece to a whole antenna. In today's world, responsible disposal is very important. We can decommission and dispose of equipment to official registered centres. This sometimes involves toxic products for which we seek advice and use correct procedures.

    •  Removal.

Transport of components and equipment shelters etc is a necessary consideration. Escorted wide loads, as seen in the picture below are sometimes unavoidable.

    • Repair and Re-instatement

Once a site or equipment area has been cleared we can re-instate to an original condition. This can involve redecoration, flooring, lighting etc. When all of the structure is cleared from a site it is often necessary to perform repairs and re-instatement. As shown below, this can include new curb stones, new tarmac and drain covers. What we always ensure is that the final site is left clean and safe to a standard acceptable to our customers.

  • Re-installation.

This brings the life cycle back to the start of this page. A new system, a new use, a new life....

We hope we have most engineering needs covered. We have not mentioned software as we don't specialise in it, but if you have a requirement we may be able to solve that too!

Construction

Construction

Due to the nature of some installations, it is sometimes necessary to prepare a site with earthworks, foundations etc. We can prepare sites as necessary to offer a turnkey  solution to a project. In some instances a project may only involve this type of work.

Where necessary, projects are controlled by CDM regulations. We are qualified in CDM practises and prepare all necessary paperwork including method statements and risk assessments etc.

Satellite antennae work has been a significant element of Lucas Projects work. However, experience also includes broadcast and communications antennae used at LF, MF, HF and L-band. As a company we pride ourselves in considering all aspects of antenna work and types of antenna.

System Installations

Installation -

Typical rack installation

System installations, typically using 19" racking, and cable management systems to complement the installation ensuring signal/power cable separation. Custom racking systems can be procured or manufactured to the customers needs as required including built in cooling, UPS backup and security as necessary. Connectors and cables are specified to suit the application with consideration to strain relief, interference etc. Systems range from networked computer systems to RF broadcast.

RF installations can be provided to suit requirements for transmission. We cover the full baseband to transmission frequency installations along with the frequency conversion, high power amplification necessary for transmission and cross-site feeder cables (typically coaxial) and fibre optic up to L-Band.

Vehicles fitted with electrical systems include Land Rovers, medium and large vans and 4x4’s. System designs encompass large battery storage, inverters, switchable charging from engine to shoreline plus interior wiring for power and lighting etc. To the left are images of a large van installation used for aerial photography’.

Design and Manufacture

Design -

We can undertake the design of custom hardware from electro-mechanical units to telecom and radio systems (RF) equipment. The design function can be development modelling to problem solving, including EMC consideration and printed circuit boards.

Manufacture -

Following on from the design function we can produce hardware from our designs or to our customers specifications. As with design, we will manufacture "one-offs", up to production runs.
System rack construction and inter-connecting wiring is a speciality including aerospace racks. Complete system design and manufacture enables turnkey solutions.

We can also offer specialist metalwork manufacture (small component using CNC machinery to large steelwork).

Meet Lucas Projects

Lucas Projects is an engineering company largely experienced in telecommunications and custom electro-mechanical hardware design, construction and installation. Equipment production ranges from aerospace equipment to satellite broadcast to inkjet systems, and more.

Additionally the company undertakes large scale project site work at establishments such as satellite earth stations and broadcast stations. This work often involves the erection and dismantling of antennae and fitting out of ground based electronic equipment, manufactured by us or 3rd parties. These projects tend to be run as turnkey but can be tailored to suit.

Due to our extensive RF experience, Lucas Projects was contracted to work as radio Interference engineers at the 2012 London Olympics. The contract included the pre-start set-up phase as well as the Olympic and Para-Olympic games.

Formerly known as Rivalsign Ltd the company has worked extensively for large organisations such as British Telecom, Inmarsat and Stratos Communications over a 21 year period.

Benefits:

  • Offer Turnkey project or close customer liaison approach
  • In-house project management
  • Low overheads - low costs
  • Flexible and adaptable attitude enabling development design changes
  • Broad range of engineering skills offering design, manufacture, installation, construction and erection, antennae, consultancy, decommissioning, reparation etc
  • Service agreements available
